Im Rahmen der Bauwerkeserie verausgabten die Deutsche Bundespost und die Westberliner Post am 15.12.1964 eine Marke “50 Pfg. Ellwangen/Jagst” mit der Darstellung des Schloßtores und nebenstehend ein Baum. Mit etwas Fantasie kann man auf der rechten Seite im Baum einen “Kopf mit Hut” interpretieren. Diesen kann man bei entsprechender Auslegung als “Hitlerkopf” wahrnehmen.

As part of the building series, the German Federal Post and the West Berlin Post issued a stamp each themed "50 Pfg. Ellwangen/Jagst" on December 15, 1964 with the depiction of the castle gate and a tree alongside. With a little imagination, one can interpret a "head with hat" on the right side in the tree. This can be perceived as a "Hitler head" as part of the interpretation.

In der OPD Potsdam in der DDR wurde dies wohl so wahrgenommen, denn dort, und nur dort, wurde die Marke an der entsprechenden Stelle geschwärzt. Es ist keine offizielle Verfügung bekannt, die dies autorisiert hätte, daher ist unklar inwieweit es sich hier um eine eigenmächtige Aktion des Postpersonals der OPD Potsdam handelt oder inwieweit der Vorgang offiziell genehmigt war.

In the regional post office administration Potsdam in the GDR, this was probably perceived this way, because there, and only there, the stamp was blackened in the appropriate place. There is no official order known that would have authorized this, so it is unclear to what extent this was an unauthorized action of the postal staff of the OPD Potsdam or to what extent the process was officially authorized.
