Berliner Sonderstempel Berlin Special Cancellations

Sechs Sonderstempel, die in Berlin in der Zeit von 1969 bis 1971 aufgelegt wurden (Berlin 12), wurden in der DDR beanstandet und entsprechende Sendungen mit dem gestepelten Hinweis "Zurück Sendung verstößt gegen die gesetzlichen Bestimmungen der DDR" zurückgesandt.

Die DDR bezeichnete die Stempel als "völkerrechtswidrige Anmaßung, da die selbständige politische Einheit Westberlin als Teil der BRD behandelt würde". Über 20 verschiedene Varianten des Zurück-Stempels sind bekannt. Diese wurden in violetter Farbe gestempelt, auch eine rote Variante ist bekannt. Auch entsprechende Erklärungszettel des Postamtes Berlin 12 sind bekannt.

Six special cancellations issued in Berlin (Berlin 12) in the period 1969 to 1971 were objected to in the GDR and corresponding mail were returned with the postmark "Zurück Sendung verstößt gegen die gesetzlichen Bestimmungen der DDR" (Retour mail violates the legal provisions of the GDR).

The GDR described the stamps as "presumption contrary to international law, since the independent political entity of Westberlin would be treated as part of the FRG". Over 20 different variations of the Retour postmark are known. These were stamped in purple color, a red variant is also known. Corresponding explanatory slips from the Berlin 12 post office are also known.
